Process

How a transfer works

Four steps. You take care of the first two before you order.

  1. Get the transfer code

    The transfer code (AuthInfo, auth code) is your domain’s password for the transfer. You get it from your current provider.

  2. Check and order the transfer

    Enter the domain above. You see whether it can move and what it costs. Keep the transfer code ready for the transfer.

  3. Take over your records

    Once the domain is in your account, you import your DNS records as a zone file, up to 5,000 records per file.

  4. Bring your mail along

    With an email package, the import fetches your mail from your previous mailbox (IMAP).

Whether a transfer extends the term at the registry depends on the extension.
